This page covers what happens to your resume and how we email you. The rest of how we handle your data is in our Terms and Conditions (section 8, Your Data).
When you upload or paste a resume, we read it once and remove your name, email address, phone number, links, street address, ZIP code and date of birth. City and state stay, because we price pay by location. Employers, job titles, dates and skills stay too; they are what we compare with the market. We keep that cleaned text and what we read from it. The file you uploaded is not kept, and neither is the original text.
The removal is automatic and can miss something in an unusual layout. Once you have an account, you can read and edit the cleaned text from Your Profile. Your Profile keeps your recent edits as a short history of up to 50 earlier versions, so you can undo them; a new resume starts a new history, and deleting your account deletes it. Each role you edit in your Library keeps its own copy of your resume, with a short history of its edits, until you reset it to your main resume, delete it from your Library, or delete your account; a new resume does not change those copies.
Two services read the cleaned text. Anthropic, our AI provider, reads it when you upload it, to sort it into roles and skills. Our classify engine reads it, with your job title and location, to match you to an occupation and its pay. The engine uses Anthropic's models to read it too, and it keeps a copy of each version it reads, with no end date, so we can check and improve its answers. Neither one receives the file, the original text, or the current and target pay you type in. Tailoring your resume to a role in your Library sends Anthropic the cleaned text, including lines you add, and that job posting, to suggest rewordings. It never sends the name and contact details you type for your download, or your pay.
Anthropic's commercial terms say it may not train its models on what we send it. Its privacy center says it deletes what we send it, and what it sends back, within 30 days, unless it needs to keep them longer to enforce its usage policy or to comply with the law.
Uploading a new resume replaces the one stored with your profile. Deleting your account, in Settings, deletes your profile and the cleaned text stored with it. It does not delete the copies our classify engine has kept.
We use Mailchimp to send your updates. They are service email about your account: your results and trial updates. If a payment fails, our site emails you itself, not through Mailchimp. The weekly Market Fit Report is extra. It only goes to you if you turn it on, on Job Search or in Settings, and it is off until you do.
So those emails can show your own numbers, we store these with Mailchimp: your email address, your first name if you gave us one, the role on your profile, the pay figures we show you for that role and the area they cover, the skills employers ask for that your resume doesn't show, whether we found any skills in your resume, how many new jobs fit you, a link to your profile, where you are in your trial or subscription and when your trial ends, and whether your weekly report is on. We also tell Mailchimp when your trial or subscription changes (a failed payment included) and when one of these emails is due. We never send Mailchimp your resume.
Every email has an unsubscribe link. Unsubscribing stops the emails we send through Mailchimp, and we won't add you back unless you resubscribe and confirm it from the email Mailchimp sends you. We only add people who signed up on this site, never imported lists. When you delete your account, we ask Mailchimp to delete your contact permanently.
You can turn the weekly report off, or unsubscribe from all our email, in Settings.
